How much mass can a toy boat hold when its made of different materiel's (tin foil, duct tape, plastic)?
Variables
Independent Variable:
boat materials
Dependent Variable:
mass of boat (grams)
Variables That Need To Be Controlled:
amount of materiel used same weight materiel's size boat
Hypothesis:
My hypothesis is that the duct tape will hold the most weight because it
has the strongest structure material and the plastic will hold less because
its structure is weak and i think tin fowl will hold less than the duct tape
but more than the plastic.

General Plan
Experimental Design
I am going to conduct my experiment in my basement. I will conduct it in my basement because there is not much carpet and the mess will be easy to clean up.I will be doing this experiment alone because it is pretty simple. All I have to do is make the boats and boat casting and put pennies in them. I will conduct five trials and make sure my date is accurate and i have usable information. I plan to put my date on Google spreadsheet because i can have my laptop next to me while .I conduct theses experiments. I will print them out to my family printer.[I plan to document my experiment on Google documents because i can always access it where ever i am as long as i have Internet. I will break up a paragraph for each materiel i use in my experiment.]
material list
Tin foil
Plastic
Bath Tub
Duct Tape
detailed procedure
1.Make a casting of the boat out of wooden beams
2. Make three boats out of your materials (plastic, duct tap and tin foil)
3. Float the boats
4. Put Pennies in each boat until they sink.
5. Count the pennies in each boat.
6. record the data
7. repeat steps 3-6 four more times.
Background Research
how much weight can different materials hold and why.
how to measure matter in all different forms.and matter information.
the best way to make boats made of different materials.
i want to know if my boat design will affect my tests.
The original purpose of this experiment was to find how much weight different boat materials could hold being weighed down by pennies floating in water. The results of the experiment were that duct tape held more weight than tin foil and plastic. Tin foil held a average of 56.6 pennies, plastic held 22.6 pennies and duct tape held 99 pennies.
discussion
My hypothesis was that the duct tape would hold the most weight, followed by tin foil and the plastic. My results did support my hypothesis. There was a relationship between the independent and dependent variable because the independent depends on my dependent to make the experiment work. I think the test i did went smoothly and i had not issues conducting my experiment. Because everything went according to plan and i had no problem floating my materials and putting weight on them.if i could improve anything i would improve the quality of my boats.
